Boob clouds!
Fantastic storms all day.
These are called “mammatiform clouds”. They’re rounded protuberances from the undersurface of a giant anvil top spreading from a cumulonimbus cloud. “Cloudy air” comes into contact with a stable layer of cloud-free air, reaches the same temperature because of radiation and mixing, and becomes unstable. However, because it has no nearby boundaries, the falling air divides inot a polygonal array of downward-moving parcels called Benard Cells. Since such downward movement must have upward compensation of cloud-free air, the undersurface assumes the rounded shapes. How ’bout that (thanks Peterson Field Guide to Atmosphere).
